Studio Policy

Teacher Responsibilities

We will provide a positive and enthusiastic atmosphere for learning and will offer many performances and enriching activities. Our hones teaching skills by belonging to professional organizations, attending workshops, reading professional publications, and engaging in other activities to insure continuous professional growth. We will encourage a feeling of success at each student’s individual rate of learning and guide each student towards musical independence with a balanced program of theory, technique, ear-training, sight-reading and performance experiences. We will make piano as fun and entertaining as possible.

Student Responsibilities

The students agrees to arrive at each lesson punctually, well-prepared, and with all necessary materials. If you arrive five minutes late, your lesson is five minutes shorter (you reserve the time slot, not the number of minutes). Students are expected to practice every day for as long as their lesson’s length in order to keep up with the curriculum. Practice time should be increased to 1 hour based on a student’s progress. It can be broken into two or three shorter sessions. Consistent attendance will aid in musical success; so, do not skip class because you have not practiced. Fluctuations in interest are perfectly normal and do not impede musical training.  

Parent Responsibilities

Encourage progress! Many small steps throughout the year yield great results! Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend lessons at any time.  Please check your child’s assignment logbook for pertinent information. Parental support is a must for a child’s musical growth. To help your child develop self-discipline and good practice habits, set aside a regular time for practice each day (this can be done all at once or divided into two or more daily practice sessions). Younger children especially need help with their practicing “for little fingers”.  
  
The parent is to provide a well-maintained acoustic piano (most keyboards and organs are not appropriate). Acoustic piano should be tuned once a year. A metronome is necessary to have to help developing the sense of timing. Provide a practice environment that is free from interruptions (family, friends, TV, computer or phone). Be financially responsible and pay tuition on time. Late payments result in late fees. For questions regarding tuition and your account, email ypcheung.tang@gmail.com. Payment & Tuition

Absences & Cancellations

• There is no credit given for absences and cancellations lessons.
• Studio cancellations due to student’s “illness” can be re-scheduled based on teacher’s availability.
• If the student cannot make a scheduled lesson time, he/she must notify Beatrice Studio at least 48 hours (2 days) in advance to reschedule within the same week, at a convenient time for the teacher.
• Cancellations by the teacher will be re-scheduled.
• Inclement weather clause: Lessons by Beatrice Studio will be open to lessons during inclement weather day(s).  But please use your own judgment whether you would like to come over for a lesson or not. If such situation arises, a make-up lesson is given by teacher.
• The parents are financially responsible for any missed lessons. Credit is not given for any cancellations.
• The teacher is financially responsible for any missed lesson on teacher’s part (illness, appointments, emergencies, etc.). The students will have a make-up lesson for teacher’s absence or cancellation, but lesson fee will not be credited.
